I don’t worship the man,

but the energy he embodies.

He speaks of a true end to

colonialism on his own land.

I used to think colonialism

was about Africa,

not the United States.

But we are a colony too.

A settler colony

where whites all but

exterminated the indigenous population.

This Empire extracts it’s resources,

Not diamond mines, cobalt or gold,

But Black pain living under

the brutality of white supremacy.

That pain fuels all our

most beautiful creations.

How much money do they make off

our music, style, athleticism?

What about our inventions,

scientific breakthroughs and brilliance?

Even our torture makes them money

in the prison industrial complex.

The empire lives by sucking the lifeblood

Out of me and everyone I love.

So, yes, I know about colonialism.

And when I see the energy of revolution flow,

I will call it out to it,

I will lend my support.

I will stand vigil,

For a true end to colonialism.
