In June 2025, I returned to my father’s home—now my home—after his passing. He lived here for 35 years, and the house carries the weight of memory, struggle, and deep love. My father was a lifelong social justice warrior, deeply committed to the fight for Black liberation. He was disheartened by the steady erosion of civil rights gains and the relentless rollback of justice for African Americans. That grief, along with his personal battles with depression, settled into the space. As I move in, I’m not only cleaning and renovating—I’m also tending to the spiritual energy of the house. I want to honor the legacy of my father’s fight while reinterpreting his home as a place of joy, vitality, prosperity, beauty, and love. Especially now, in these dark times, I hold close the values he lived for and hope to continue that work in my own way—through art, through healing, through presence. This is a transformation of space and spirit, and I’ll be documenting the process here.
