I want to express my profound gratitude for all your support and hard work.
To everyone who voted for me, Thank You!
On Tuesday, we demonstrated the power of our collective voice with tremendous turnout at the polls. In fact, the entire political establishment had to come out to quell our momentum.
Even though we didn’t win, we have started a movement 7300+ strong and we must keep going to protect the everyday people who struggle to survive in this city. In the face of tremendous odds, your door-knocking, phone banking, and visibility spread our message far and wide.
Thanks to your efforts, the power of our message can never be silenced.
I decided to run for the 35th Council District because of our amazing community. In spite of our rich, diverse, wonderful history, we are facing permanent displacement of the very people who spent generations raising families here.
I ran because we needed a voice that would put the people over profits; a voice that would speak for us and not the real estate industry.
Make no mistake, this race was about money and about real estate. Don’t be fooled by small concessions. Even now, there’s talk of more money being thrown at the armory deal to get it passed.
With nearly 30,000 eviction cases filed in just a two-year period, and many more harassed to leave without being evicted, we all know the threat we are facing.
We fought for a people-centered government. We fought for our self-determination and the right to control our community, not the moneyed interests. We fought for all the Brooklyn residents struggling to hang on, and for those who have been displaced.
We forged unlikely alliances and built relationships; we will continue the fight.
The fight to save our armory.
The fight for permanent affordable housing.
The fight to end childhood homelessness and strengthen our schools.
The fight to put public transportation first.
The fight to reform our criminal justice system.
Thank you again to all my supporters, volunteers and voters. We have truly built something remarkable.
I will continue to build on that foundation and ensure that the movement we started carries on.
