One of the greatest responsibilities of government is to preserve and protect the public spaces we all use and enjoy. This includes safeguarding against the kind of unchecked and rampant development going on in our neighborhoods.
We may have scored an important victory in delaying the project threatening Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, but our work is far from over. Super-tall developments create ‘shadow pollution’ and negatively impact the character of land that belongs to everyone.
We’ve already seen it happen in Central Park and it should not be allowed to proceed here in Brooklyn. As our next Council Member, I will work with community leaders to ensure that our public spaces are protected and that future development meets the needs of the community first.
