Ede Fox is dedicated to a long-term career in public service.
She was previously a top aide to NYC Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and was the First Director of the NYC Council’s Office of Economic and Community Development Division, providing Council Member offices with comprehensive support and resources to catalyze key projects that create affordable housing, commercial revitalization, employment opportunities, quality public space and other key community benefits.
Ms. Fox served as Chief of Staff for Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, and prior to that Legislative and Budget Director for Speaker Mark-Viverito.
Ede helped negotiate sustainable development projects, bringing much-needed jobs and affordable housing to local communities, and worked on legislation to protect tenants’ rights.
Ede worked on numerous political and union campaigns, from helping health care workers get the contracts they deserved to conducting grassroots organizing to elect progressive, community-minded candidates at all levels of government, from District Leader to City Council, NY State Legislature, Congressional, Gubernatorial and Presidential races. She served as a board member of Brooklyn Community Board 8 for 10 years and served as the Chair of its Environmental/Sanitation Committee.
She championed statewide issues like anti-fracking as well as local concerns including pesticide use in public areas.
Ede has served on the Brooklyn Democratic Party County Committee since 2010 in order to bring politically minded, but not yet active neighbors into the political process.
Ede co-founded Prospect Heights Democrats for Reform (PHDR), a democratic club committed to fighting for transparency, accountability, and inclusive democracy at the local level.
She is also a member of the Dean Street block association, Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter, and a parish council member at The Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, R.C.
Ede graduated with a BA in Anthropology from the University of Michigan.
She received her Master’s in Anthropology from UCLA. As a doctoral candidate at UCLA, she moved to Amsterdam to conduct her dissertation research in Europe and continued to live there for 3 years before returning home to New York City. Ede has lived in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, NY since 2003.
